Who’s your dragon?
Happy St George’s Day to you all. It’s our national day of celebration. Even if you’re not celebrating, I hope you are having a lovely day in the sunshine.
As the legend goes, St George fought a dragon that was terrorising the town of Silene. To appease the dragon, the people of Silene fed it a sheep every day and when the dragon wasn’t satisfied with sheep, they fed it their children. Each child chosen by lottery. The dragon, who was suffering with the plague, lived in a lake and one day, the king’s daughter was due to be fed to the dragon. The king offered all his riches and half of his kingdom to whoever could spare his daughter. St George happened to be riding by on his horse and on seeing the king’s plight, St George fortified himself with the sign of the cross and slayed the dragon.
